We are just home from a week in the Maldives. I know, just typing that makes me want to pinch myself all over again! It was as perfect as an island in the tropical sun can be. We flew 4 hours from Dubai to Male and then transferred to a seaplane and flew an hour north of Male to the island of Sirru Fen Fushi.
We had to have negative Covid tests before we flew and were then tested on the island 48 hours before we returned. The Island was Covid free so we did not have to wear masks although all of the staff did. The photos above are when we about to board seaplane, Neville's view behind the pilot as we were coming into land (water), and just as we were about to leave.
The sea was all of the shades of blue and green that I love so much - aqua, turquoise, azure, emerald...offset with white sand and tropical foliage. The food was fresh and fabulous, lots of seafood, great coffee, cold beer, good wine and the desserts were delicious - the favourite would have to be the chocolate lava pudding! We snorkelled everyday over the reef just outside of our Villa, although not a great deal of coloured coral there were coloured fish of every description. In the villa, the toilet had a glass floor where if you were lucky you could also observe the odd fish passing by!!
We whiled away the hours watching the sea change colours, watching the seaplanes coming and going, reading our books and regularly jumping into the ocean, then rinsing off in the pool. Neville had the misfortune of being stung by a jelly fish on his wrist - the area blistered and was quite painful, the island doctor came and looked it over and gave him some Cortisone cream that settled it down. We had not been warned about jelly fish - not a common occurrence, so he was just unlucky!
The sunsets were quite wonderful and we were also lucky enough the second night to be there for a full moon. A full moon is of course the equivalent to the world's largest spot light - so much for no light pollution so that I could look at the stars in the northern hemisphere! That changed by the end of the week, the stars in the night sky were worth the wait.
The last day was quite overcast and grey all day and the sea was like glass in the afternoon when Neville had booked us to go out on jet skis!! I had never been on a jet ski before ( I honestly thought they were just noisy and irritating) so was quite happy to follow the Instructor, he was there to make sure we didn't go close to the reef or disturb the other guests. To my absolute surprise - it was a highlight of my week!! The water was like glass that turned to turquoise, it was such a blast and as I grew more confident - I just went flat out with a grin from ear to ear. I didn't dare turn around to look at Neville behind me who was apparently doing cartwheels off the wake and also having the time of his life! We rounded off our day with crayfish and chocolate lava cake.

Our go to guy on the island was a lovely young man called Hafiz - seen pictured here on our last evening. He was a font of knowledge and quietly appeared out of nowhere just when we had a query. We were the ultimate in low maintenance guests, we walked or swam everywhere rather than having him pick us up (in his golf cart). The island was only at about 75% capacity (although it felt like less), they were in the process of opening more accommodation and bringing on more staff.
It really was a very happy, carefree and relaxing week in paradise! Once again I am fully aware that I am completely spoiled and blessed to be here. Now to the washing...

So amazing... adding it to my bucket list now!
